Creating the Brand Guidelines, Business Plan, and Website for SpiritBuild
About SpiritBuild
SpiritBuild is a Sydney-based construction company that specialises in the creation of unique, high-end homes. They offer custom home design and major renovation services, with a focus on custom architectural designs and premium finishes.
They excel in handling complex projects that require innovative solutions and out-of-the-box thinking, and they work with trusted partners in custom carpentry, interior design, and other trades to deliver faster and higher quality results.
Since their inception in 2013, SpiritBuild has established a strong client base through their growing reputation and positive word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients.
My role
In order to support its growth and continue providing top-quality services, SpiritBuild needed to define their business strategy, refine their brand identity, and establish an online presence.
To help with these efforts, I was hired to create a comprehensive business plan, develop and implement a new visual branding strategy, create brand guidelines, build a new website, and write all of the content for the site.
I enjoyed the challenge and opportunity to approach the project with a service design and user-centered mindset, which is not always the norm in an industry that traditionally uses limited technology.
When I started working on the project, I noticed that SpiritBuild had an existing logo and brand colours, but there was a lack of consistency in their use across branded products and online content.
To address this, I decided to brighten the existing colours to give them a more modern feel and added an accent colour to be used for icons and highlights, as well as two complementary background colours. This allowed for greater flexibility in the branding and prevented the colours from looking too "patriotic."
In addition, I defined the fonts and colours to be used for text content, such as headings, paragraphs, and buttons, to ensure a cohesive and professional look across all materials
For the website, I wanted to keep the design light and minimal to keep the focus on the images and calls-to-action. In terms of the content, I noticed that many competitor sites reused the same buzzwords, all promising the "best quality at the best price."
Instead, I chose to highlight SpiritBuild's values and focus on the clients' online experience with the company. I also wanted to dispel some common stereotypes about tradespeople by emphasizing SpiritBuild's respectful behavior, inclusive business practices, and sustainable practices.
Overall, my goal was to create a website that accurately reflected the unique and differentiated value that SpiritBuild offers to its clients.
